I mixed chili powder, garlic powder, minced onion, and crushed red pepper together in a small bowl. I used minced onion rather than the powdered called for in the original recipe.
Then I added it to some ground turkey and cooked it over medium heat.
The mixture was ready after simmering for 5 minutes, and smelled fantastic.
Perfect ground turkey tacos were yet another easy and awesome meal!
Just the right amount of spice! I could really tell from the smell of the ground cumin that it was a big part of regular taco seasoning. It was better than the mix we have on hand for sure. I saw another version that had cayenne pepper and ground coriander seed, so I'll have to try it next time to compare. I can't think of a reason to buy taco seasoning again!
Homemade Taco Seasoning Recipe
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions:
In a small bowl, mix together chili powder, garlic powder, minced onion, crushed red pepper, oregano, paprika, cumin, salt and pepper. Store in an airtight container.
For ground turkey tacos:
Brown 1 pound of ground turkey in a large skillet. Add 1 tablespoon of the seasoning mixture and 1/4 cup of water to the ground turkey and simmer for 5 minutes.
