Turkey and Garbanzo Bean Chili

Chili is one of those all-inclusive meals that requires little work but has a big payoff.  Some nights call for a simple meal, and recently I was up for just one of those.  I had some ground turkey on hand, some cubano peppers a friend gave me, plus a fresh jalapeño in the fridge.  The only thing missing was beans, with the exception of some garbanzos I had set aside for my next bout of Homemade Hummus.  Challenge accepted.

I've made Turkey Chili before, so I followed that recipe and just made a couple of adjustments.

I started off by browning the ground turkey in a nonstick skillet.  I cut up the jalapeño and cubano peppers, then tossed them in with the ground meat.

Next, I stirred in the tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, garbanzo beans, water, pickled jalapeños, green pepper, chopped onion, sriracha, minced garlic, chili powder, crushed red pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, white pepper, black pepper, salt, paprika, and oregano and heated the mixture to a simmer.

I covered the pan and let the chili cook for 30 minutes.

And at last, dinner was served.

Chili success once more!  I found few chili recipes with garbanzo beans, but I really liked how they tasted.  This version was definitely much spicier than the last, with all those peppers, chili powder, and the cayenne pepper.  Kicking it up a notch just made it more tasty, and of course it was filling.  I added a bit of sour cream to mine and had a great meal, plus plenty of leftovers.  Fresh peppers made a big difference, and I felt great about enjoying this one with those homegrown vegetables included.  Great stuff.
